Congratulations to Patrizia Tavella the recipient of the ITSF 2024 TimeLord award.
Patrizia has been the Director of the Time Department at the Bureau International des Poids et Mesures in Paris since 2017. Responsible for Coordinated Universal Time, Patrizia is the executive secretary of the Consultative Committee on Time and Frequency. Prior to 2017 she spent 30 years at the Italian Metrology Institute INRIM. Patrizia holds a degree in physics and a PhD in metrology.
Her main interests are mathematical and statistical models applied to atomic time scales. She was deeply involved in the development and experimentation of the timing system of the European Navigation System Galileo.
In 2020 she was awarded the Enrico Fermi Prize by the Italian Physical Society and in 2019 was awarded the European Frequency and Time Forum award. In 2016 Patrizia was IEEE UFFC Distinguished Lecturer and in 2008 she was awarded the Distinguished PTTI Service Award (an award given by the Institute of Navigation (ION) to recognise outstanding contributions to the management of Precise Time and Time Interval (PTTI) systems).
